SOLWODI Hungary
SOLWODI Hungary operates a specialized counseling center in Budapest. The organization works to combat human trafficking, exploitation, forced prostitution, and violence against women. Its work includes prevention, awareness-raising, victim assistance, international networking, and spiritual support. Together with partners from the church, government, and civil society, it is committed to upholding the dignity and protecting the rights of those affected.
Commemoration Days and Events Against Human Trafficking
In 2025, SOLWODI Hungary once again organized events as part of international and European efforts to combat human trafficking.
On February 8, the feast day of Saint Bakhita Josefina, a prayer service and solemn Mass were held at the Sacred Heart Church in Budapest.
On July 30, the UN World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a Mass was celebrated with a special focus on victims of labor exploitation among seasonal workers.
On October 17, the European Day Against Trafficking in Persons, SOLWODI Hungary hosted a time of meditation and a Mass at the Chapel of Christ the King in Budapest.
Collaboration Against Human Trafficking in Hungary
n 2025, SOLWODI Hungary continued its collaboration with Christian-oriented nongovernmental organizations, church-affiliated institutions, and government agencies. Partners included, among others, the Névtelen Utak Foundation, The Salvation Army, the Baptist Charity Service, and the Ecumenical Relief Organization of Hungary.
As part of the Hungarian Ministry of the Interior’s NGO roundtable, the organization contributed to the further development of the national strategy against human trafficking. In addition, SOLWODI Hungary participated in expert meetings and consultations with representatives of government agencies, law enforcement authorities, and international organizations, including the Council of Europe’s GRETA expert group.
Education and Prevention Work
In 2025, a key focus of SOLWODI Hungary’s work was on prevention and raising awareness among young people and education professionals.
The organization conducted workshops, lectures, and discussion groups at schools, theological training institutions, and church-affiliated organizations. The following topics were of particular focus:
Forms and risks of human trafficking
Dangers of digital media and social networks
Recognizing warning signs
Protection and support for at-risk youth
Responsibilities of families and educational institutions
Several events took place in collaboration with schools in Szeged, Gödöllő, Dombóvár, and Budapest. In addition, parent-teacher conferences and online expert discussions were organized.
International Networking
SOLWODI Hungary works closely with the European network RENATE. Staff members of the organization are active in various working groups there, focusing on the topics of law, prevention, prayer, and European cooperation.
In addition, SOLWODI Hungary maintains contacts with international organizations such as ATLAS FREE to strengthen professional exchange and improve support for those affected, even across national borders.
Help for Victims and Survivors
In 2025, SOLWODI Hungary continued to support women and others affected by human trafficking, exploitation, prostitution, and violence on their journey toward a self-determined life.
The support included, among other things:
emergency financial aid
assistance with securing housing and organizing daily life
Clothing and assistance for families
Coordination of medical care
Psychosocial and spiritual support
Legal assistance
Regular personal support and visits
In addition, the organization regularly participated in street outreach efforts by The Salvation Army to directly reach and support women engaged in street prostitution.
Prayer Network
Since its founding, SOLWODI Hungary has supported its work through a prayer network for those affected, survivors, helpers, and perpetrators. The monthly prayer prompts were revised in 2025 to develop new forms of spiritual support.
Public Relations
In 2025, several articles about the work of SOLWODI Hungary appeared in Hungarian media and church platforms. Interviews and feature articles drew attention to the reality of human trafficking and introduced the organization’s activities to a wider audience.
