SOLWODI Romania

SOLWODI Romania operates a specialized counseling center and a rehabilitation center in Bucharest. The organization works to combat human trafficking and domestic violence and supports women and children in particularly vulnerable situations. Since 2009, the organization has been offering counseling, protection, rehabilitation, and support on the path to a self-determined life. In addition, SOLWODI Romania is actively involved in prevention and awareness-raising efforts, as well as in collaboration with government, church, and civil society partners.

Statistics

In 2025, SOLWODI Romania provided support to a total of 130 women and children through its counseling center, rehabilitation center, and the “Transition to an Independent Life” program.

The rehabilitation center admitted 12 adult beneficiaries and 29 minors. The average length of stay was 180 days. The women receiving support were between 18 and 49 years old; nine were from Romania, and three were from other countries.

An additional 18 women, or mothers with children, participated in the “Transition to an Independent Life” program.

The most significant issues were domestic violence, human trafficking, and psychological, physical, and emotional abuse.

Brief Overview:

For SOLWODI Romania, 2025 was a year of intensive support for women and children in situations of severe vulnerability. Our work continued to focus on protection, stabilization, rehabilitation, and long-term social reintegration. Despite growing challenges, we were able to continue and further develop our services.

The SOLWODI Romania counseling center supported women and children affected by human trafficking, domestic violence, and other forms of gender-based violence. The services offered included psychological counseling, social support, and case management, as well as telephone crisis counseling, online counseling, and age-appropriate support for children. The combination of in-person, telephone, and digital counseling proved particularly important for reaching people who were isolated or had limited mobility.

At the rehabilitation center, we provided women and children with a safe place for protection, stabilization, and recovery. Beneficiaries received safe shelter, meals, and basic necessities, medical support, individual and group psychological therapy, as well as social and legal counseling. Leisure and recreational activities further supported the process of emotional stabilization and the rebuilding of trust and independence.

The “Transition to an Independent Life” program supported women on their path to independence after they had stabilized at the women’s shelter or counseling center. The services included psychological counseling, assistance with finding and retaining housing, career counseling, and help with entering the job market. Ongoing support once again proved crucial in preventing relapses into situations of violence or exploitation.

In 2025, SOLWODI Romania also invested in improving infrastructure. Renovation work was carried out at the counseling center, and initial modernization efforts began at the women’s shelter to further improve living conditions and safety. The work will continue in 2026.

The increasing complexity of the cases continued to pose major challenges for our team in 2025. Many women and children suffered from multiple traumas, social insecurity, economic dependence, and a lack of support networks. Close collaboration with government agencies, social services, medical facilities, and partner organizations therefore remained a central component of our work.

In 2025, SOLWODI Romania continued its commitment to preventing human trafficking and domestic violence, as well as raising public awareness of the rights of women and children. Our goal remains to provide long-term and sustainable support services for people in need and to strengthen their personal and social resilience.
