SOLWODI in Kenya
Many girls and women in Kenya live in precarious conditions: poverty, unstable income, and a lack of access to education limit their future opportunities. Especially in informal settlements and rural areas, girls and women are also affected by sexual violence, exploitation, and social exclusion. Early pregnancies, a lack of career prospects, and the consequences of climate change can further exacerbate their already difficult living conditions.
Rights alone are not enough. While Kenya has numerous legal protections for women and children, laws do not automatically translate into everyday reality. Especially for people living in poverty or with little access to government support services, it is often difficult to enforce their rights. That is why concrete support is needed—support that reaches women and girls, opens doors to education and a decent life, and helps them exercise their rights. This is where SOLWODI comes in!

Our projects include:
Early Childhood Education (ECD Schools)
Early education opens up opportunities: The project gives children from particularly poor families in Kenya a good start in school, thereby laying an important foundation for their future.
Center for Child Protection and Trauma Recovery for Victims of Abuse
The project provides children in Kenya who have been affected by violence and sexual exploitation with protection, support in coming to terms with their traumatic experiences, and the prospect of a self-determined life.
Climate-Resilient Agriculture (with a focus on particularly vulnerable women)
This project empowers women in Kenya to become climate advocates: Through sustainable agriculture and new irrigation techniques, they are securing their livelihoods and strengthening their communities.
The project provides young women in Kenya with sustainable vocational training, thereby opening up new opportunities for them to lead self-determined and economically independent lives.
Together with local partner organizations, we are implementing specific projects at four locations in Kenya: Mombasa, Malindi, Busia, and Butere. Our partners focus on the specific challenges in each location and work with community members to develop sustainable solutions.
