Project Description

SOLWODI is a partner of the IRC in a three-year EU-funded project entitled ‘Lichtblicke - Gemeinsam gegen Menschenhandel’ (Lichtblicke - Together against human trafficking).

Since September 2024, we have been supplementing our regular work in the specialist counselling centres by developing a training concept on the topic of human trafficking and violence. Together with Malteser International, one of our largest cooperation partners, we are starting to pilot the first training courses this summer, which will be aimed in particular at non-specialist full-time and volunteer staff at refugee accommodation centres. In this way, we want to improve early identification in the accommodation centres and the referral of those affected to support services.

Over the next two years, we will conduct a total of 35 training courses in five federal states under scientific supervision, providing important basic knowledge on the topic of human trafficking and sexualised violence as well as recommendations for action in everyday life. The content and experiences will be published in a publicly accessible handbook in 2026 and presented in specialist forums at state level and at a nationwide online symposium.

Project Activities

Development of a model system for identification and support
Aim: To develop a scientifically based model system for the qualification of employees in refugee accommodation centres.
Implementation: The system is being piloted in 30 accommodation centres in various federal states and includes workshops and training for staff.
Result: A handbook with practical tools and recommendations for action for the centres.
Qualification of employees in refugee accommodation centres
Aim: To train 525 full-time and voluntary employees in the accommodation centres in order to identify and support those potentially affected at an early stage.
Implementation: Theory workshops online and practical workshops on site in the accommodation centres.
Result: Sustainable structures and qualified employees who are able to identify and support those affected.
Peer-to-peer sensitisation activities
Aim: To sensitise 240 asylum seekers and refugees in eight accommodation centres about human trafficking and violence.
Implementation: Workshops conducted by former victims to promote trust and understanding.
Result: Empowered and informed victims who know their rights and can take advantage of support services.
Individual counselling and support
Aim: To support 210 potentially affected women and girls through specialist counselling centres.
Implementation: Comprehensive counselling and support, including sheltered accommodation and psychosocial support.
Result: Stabilisation and empowerment of those affected to enable them to lead a self-determined life.
