What does SOLWODI do?

In 2023, SOLWODI supported over 500 women affected by patriarchal violence. In 117 cases, there was a threat of honor killing. 138 women and girls were at risk of forced marriage, and in 113 cases, this had already taken place.
When an affected woman contacts SOLWODI, the first step is crisis intervention and initial counseling. This includes assessing the level of risk and informing the woman about her rights. Available support services and protective measures are explained, and legal questions as well as the consequences of possible decisions, such as separation from a partner, are discussed.
If necessary, SOLWODI arranges anonymous accommodation in one of its shelters or another suitable facility. In addition, clarifying residence status and access to financial support are high priorities. Depending on individual needs, SOLWODI also arranges legal assistance, medical and psychological support, and provides long-term psychosocial counseling and help with integration in Germany.
The goal is for the affected woman to regain emotional stability and peace of mind so she can develop new perspectives for her life. Her self-confidence and independence are meant to be strengthened so she can lead a life free from violence and self-determined.
